IBADAN – Aspirant under the All Progressives Congress in Akinyele Constituency 2, Hon. Babatunde Jelil Owoade, has responded to a petition filed against him, clarifying that the controversial use of the word “Vote” on a campaign graphic was never intended for public circulation.

In a statement released to newsmen in Ibadan by his campaign media team, Owoade explained that the material in question was an internal message directed strictly at party members in anticipation of a possible direct primary process, and not a public campaign tool as alleged by the petitioners.

The statement emphasized that portraying the graphic as a violation of electoral guidelines amounts to a misrepresentation of facts and an attempt to mislead stakeholders.

“Owoade is a law abiding citizen who is fully conversant with electoral laws and processes. He holds the rule of law and party supremacy in high regard and will not, under any circumstance, engage in acts that undermine the integrity of the electoral process,” the statement read.

The campaign further suggested that the petition may not be unconnected to the growing acceptance and support Owoade enjoys among party members and constituents across the constituency.

According to the statement, the increasing momentum behind his aspiration has created anxiety among other contenders, who now see his rising profile as a major challenge ahead of the primaries.

“It is clear that the widespread support and goodwill trailing Hon. Owoade’s aspiration is making some individuals uncomfortable. This unnecessary petition is a reflection of that political tension,” the statement added.

Reaffirming his commitment to the party and the people, Owoade assured stakeholders that he remains focused on engaging party members and consolidating grassroots support within the framework of the law.

The development comes amid rising political activities in Akinyele Local Government Area, as aspirants intensify consultations ahead of the party’s primary elections.
