The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress Youth League has strongly condemned the recent attack, killings, and abduction of citizens by a terrorist group in three schools within Orire Local Government Area of the state. The group described the incident as a tragic reminder of the growing security lapses threatening lives and education in rural communities.

In a statement issued by the State Coordinator Dagilogba Ayobami, the group said the attack exposed what it called “a dangerous pattern of negligence” in the state’s approach to security. According to the Youth League, the safety of students and residents in Orire and other rural areas appears to have taken a backseat to political engagements in Ibadan.

The APC Youth League faulted the deployment of Amotekun operatives, stating that personnel who should be stationed across vulnerable local governments have been concentrated in Ibadan for political purposes. “The Amotekun security guards that are supposed to be everywhere have been deployed to Ibadan just for the APM political paparazzi,” the statement read. The group added that some operatives have also complained recently about non-payment of allowances.

The Youth League accused Governor Seyi Makinde of prioritizing “clout” over the protection of lives and properties, noting that security should be the first duty of any responsible government. It described the Orire kidnapping as a direct consequence of this misplaced priority and warned that continued neglect could embolden criminal elements across the state.

Calling on the governor to refocus on governance, the League said Makinde should “stop toying with the lives of people in the state.” It urged him to channel state resources and security structures toward protecting schools, farmlands, and rural communities that have become easy targets for armed groups.

The group also noted that the federal government has increased allocations to states for security purposes and said Oyo should not be an exception in using those funds effectively. “We implore the governor to desist from the act of sabotaging the efforts of the president in the name of politics,” the statement added, stressing that partisan interests must not override citizens’ right to safety.

Concluding, the Oyo APC Youth League called for an immediate review of the state’s security architecture, adequate funding and payment for Amotekun operatives, and a redeployment of personnel to flashpoint areas like Orire and some other forests parts. The State Coordinator Dagilogba Ayobami said only decisive action would restore public confidence and prevent further loss of lives in the state.
