The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Akinyele State Constituency II, Owoade Babatunde Jelil, has felicitated with teachers across Akinyele, Oyo State and Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, celebrated today, October 5.
In a goodwill message issued to mark the day, Owoade described teachers as indispensable partners in nation building, noting that the quality of any society is closely connected to the quality of education provided to its citizens.
He acknowledged the dedication, sacrifices and commitment of teachers who continue to shape the minds and character of younger generations, often in challenging circumstances.
According to him, teachers do far more than impart academic knowledge. They inspire dreams, nurture talents, promote discipline and prepare young people with the knowledge and values required to contribute meaningfully to society.
He therefore called for sustained investment in the teaching profession, including improved working conditions, professional development, modern teaching facilities and appropriate recognition for outstanding educators.
Owoade also aligned his message with the global focus of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, which marks 60 years since the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures.”
He stressed that supporting teachers should remain a shared responsibility among government, education stakeholders, communities, parents and the private sector.
The APC candidate further urged teachers in Akinyele State Constituency II to remain committed to their noble profession, assuring them that their contributions to the development of the constituency and the country remain invaluable.
“On this special occasion, I celebrate our teachers who dedicate their lives to educating, mentoring and shaping the future of our children.
“Your classroom may be small, but the impact of your work extends far beyond its walls. Every child you teach represents a future possibility for our community and our nation.
“We must continue to recognise, support and empower our teachers because investing in them is ultimately an investment in our collective future.”
Owoade wished teachers across Akinyele State Constituency II, Oyo State and Nigeria a Happy World Teachers’ Day, while expressing hope for a stronger education system where educators are adequately valued and supported.
Signed:
Owoade Babatunde Jelil
