InsideOutMediaHub.com can authoritatively report that the National Union of Teachers (NUT) has ordered all primary and secondary school teachers in Oyo State to withdraw their services from Monday, June 1, 2026, following the continued captivity of teachers and students abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of the state on May 15, 2026.
The directive made public, issued by the NUT National Leadership and addressed to all state wings, comes two weeks after the abduction, with victims still held by their captors and no clear timeline for rescue in sight.

In a statement signed by National President, Comr. Audu Titus Amba, and Secretary General, Dr. Clinton J. Ikpitibo, the union described the conditions suffered by the abducted teachers and learners as “horrifying, inhumane and nightmarish,” expressing deep distress over an emotional appeal recently made by the school principal and a teacher to the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, and other stakeholders to urgently secure their release.
Beyond the Oyo strike, the NUT has directed all its state wings nationwide to hold solidarity rallies on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, terminating at Government Houses across the country, where state wing leaderships are expected to address the press and demand safe and secured school environments for teachers and learners.
The union had previously issued a warning that teachers would be left with no option but to down tools if the situation remained unresolved.
“The Union stands in solidarity with the victims and their families and remains committed to pursuing every lawful means to ensure their safe return,” the statement read.
